D.A.R.E.

Kids in the 5th grade around Kearny participated in D.A.R.E.(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) this year. D.A.R.E. teaches kids about the wrongs of drugs, alcohol, and violence.

Our D.A.R.E. officers were Officer Maguire and Officer Canaley. The officers told us about a report that we would have to write at the end of our course. Our topic was What I Learned About Drugs, Alcohol, and Violence. The essay winners were:

Samantha Gervasi - Miss Romagnola's class Megan Armitt - Miss Hughes' class Jenna Crole - Mrs. Buhowski's class.

On Monday, February 10, 1997, Schuyler School's 5th grade classes joined at the school's auditorium to graduate from D.A.R.E. The winners of the essay contest received a D.A.R.E. sweatshirt. The whole graduating class received a hat, a t-shirt, a bumper sticker, and a certificate. The teachers also received a certificate. They spelled Miss Romagnola's name wrong, four years in a row! She was not happy. Otherwise the graduation was a success!
